A road accident in Karnataka early on Friday, June 28, claimed at least 13 lives. The accident occurred near Gundenhalli Crossing in Bagdi taluk on the Pune-Bengaluru National Highway in Haveri district. According to news agency ANI, three children were among the 13 people who lost their lives in the accident. The injured were admitted to a hospital. Two of the passengers are critically injured.

This accident occurred when a tempo traveller hit a truck parked along the highway. The impact of the collision completely smashed the front end of the passenger vehicle. As soon as the alert about the incident was received, the police and the fire department personnel reached the spot and started the rescue operation. The firemen managed to take out a few of the bodies from inside the Tempo Traveller.

The people injured in the accident were immediately taken to the nearest hospital by ambulance, where they are undergoing treatment.

The cause of the accident is not clear yet and is being investigated. However, a preliminary probe suggested that the Tempo Traveller was travelling at a very high speed and the driver suddenly lost control which resulted in the accident.

According to The Hindu, the deceased hailed from Emmihatti village in Bhadravati taluk of Shivamogga district. They had gone to visit temples in the Belagavi district and were returning home when the incident occurred.
