Around 17 individuals were hospitalized for an alleged electric shock incident while waiting in line for darshan at Hasanamba temple in Hassan district of Karnataka on Friday. The incident suddenly triggered commotion, prompting people to run for safety within the temple premises. Among the 17, five have been discharged, while the others continue to receive treatment, with their conditions reported as stable.
According to PTI, the police said, many people were standing in a line in between iron barricades put up to manage the crowd at Hasanamba temple. Suddenly, a few of devotees were reportedly struck by a suspected electric shock that passed through iron barricades. The victims soon raised an alarm and this resulted in a commotion. The people who were standing nearby panicked and suddenly started to run for safety.
The incident took place at 1.30 PM on Friday.
Hassan Superintendent of Police, Mohammed Sujeetha told PTI, "Seventeen people were moved out of the barricades and the rest of them are all fine. All the 17 people, including women, were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital."
"While four among them sustained injuries, the rest of them were hospitalised as they complained that they suffered an electric shock while standing in between the barricades," she said.
However, the police also said that it was just a commotion and no stampede were reported. She also added that all of them were safe and there was nothing to worry.
Hassan SP said that the officials from Karnataka Electricity Board and Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation Limited) were analysing the ground situation.
A few minutes after the incident, the situation returned to normal and devotees were allowed darshan.
Karnataka's Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, and other political figures had recently visited the temple.
