In the ongoing and contentious Cauvery water dispute, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah made a firm declaration, countering the BJP's allegations that his government was releasing water to Tamil Nadu. The CM said that the BJP's allegations were a lie and they could release water only if they had water.

On the Cauvery water issue, Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah said, "BJP is alleging that water is being released to Tamil Nadu- it is a lie. We can release water only if we have water. Even if Tamil Nadu asks or the Centre tells us to release water, we'll not do so."

This declaration comes at a time when water levels in the reservoirs that are crucial for both agriculture and drinking purposes in Karnataka are critically low. It also comes after Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) prohibited the use of drinking water in swimming pools. Last week, the Board banned the use of drinking water for gardening, car washing, road maintenance, construction, and water fountains. They also imposed Rs 5,000 fine in case of the violation of the order.

Earlier, AIADMK Chief and former TN CM Edappadi K Palaniswami condemned the stand of Karnataka and BJP leader CT Ravi. EPS said, "I strongly condemn the highly objectionable remarks made by Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar and Karnataka BJP leader CT Ravi over providing Cauvery water to Tamilnadu. This reflects the historic dual stand and hypocritical nature of National Parties in inter-state issues."
