In a horrific accident captured in CCTV footage in Bengaluru, a motorist with a pillion rider is seen hitting a car door suddenly opened by the driver which resulted in a mishap. The motorists hit the tarmac and go under the truck that was approaching in the opposite direction.


Taking the video to Twitter, East Bengaluru Traffic DCP, Kala Krishnaswamy sounded awareness while opening the car doors. He wrote: "Please be aware when you are opening the doors of your vehicle and avoid fatal mishaps."

Meanwhile, the Bloomberg Initiative for Global Road Safety (BIGRS) commenced its third phase to create traffic awareness in low and middle-income countries. Bengaluru is one among the 15 cities in 16 countries, the initiative has been prioritised to work by creating awareness among commuters and motorists.


 The programme aims to reduce road crash fatalities and injuries in 16 countries. WHO provides technical support to assess and revise current legislation to support the BIGRS programme.


As per the World Bank, road crashes cost India 3 to 5 per cent of its GDP every year. According to the World Road Statistics, India ranks first in the number of road crash deaths across the 199 countries, followed by China and the United States of America (USA). India accounts for almost 11 per cent of road crash relate death in the world.
