Heavy rains on Sunday night in Karnataka's Bengaluru brought normal life to standstill as several main roads in the prime area of the city have been submerged. The downpour was recorded at 90 mm and the officials said that Sunday was recorded as the wettest day in the last eight years in Bengaluru.
Waterlogging hasn't receded till Monday morning resulting in traffic congestion for several kilometers due to which the commuters have been facing a harrowing time in reaching their offices, and schools. Although, a few IT companies have asked their employees to avail Work From Home option.
At the same time, many large layouts and apartments built on lake beds are submerged in water. Sarjapura Road, ORR, Dudkenahalli, HAL Road areas have reported severe waterlogging.
In a tweet, news agency ANI said, "Several parts of Bengaluru remain inundated due to severe waterlogging after heavy rainfall." Due to waterlogging, there has been a severe traffic jam. Speaking to ANI, one of the locals said, "I never thought that we'll face this much waterlogging in Bengaluru. Somehow we have managed to reach here but it is yet to be seen how we'll reach our workplaces. Authorities should have taken care of the situation."
Meanwhile, poor weather conditions at the Kempegowda International Airport near Bengaluru have disrupted flight services as six flights heading towards Bengaluru have been diverted to other airports.
Also, the inclement weather resulted in delayed departures as a total of nine flights, including six international flights, have been delayed. It was reported that the airport received 109 mm of rainfall in over four hours duration.
