A 21-year-old PhD student of Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bengaluru was found dead allegedly by suicide on Friday. The police said that they did not recover a suicide note and the exact cause of the extreme step is yet to be ascertained. Diamond Kushwaha was a native of Delhi. He was pursuing a second year of an Integrated PhD in Chemical Sciences from the Institute's Solid State and Structural Chemistry unit.

He allegedly jumped from the sixth floor of the hostel building within the IISc campus, police said, as per a report on PTI.

The students immediately rushed him to a nearby hospital but he was declared brought dead. His body was shifted to MS Ramaiah Memorial Hospital mortuary.

The police have registered a case of unnatural death. They informed the parents of the student about his extreme decision. The police said that the body of the student would be handed over to them after post-mortem which would be conducted upon their arrival in Bengaluru.

The IISc condoled the student's death. In a statement, IISc said, "It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of a student, who was pursuing an Integrated PhD at the Solid State and Structural Chemistry Unit (SSCU), by suicide on 1 December."

"We express our heartfelt condolences to the student’s family and friends. We are committed to ensuring that the IISc campus is a safe and inclusive space for everyone," it added, as per the report.
