Shimla rape-murder case: Judicial custody of eight policemen extended

Kothkai (Himachal Pradesh) [India], October 16(ANI): A local court on Monday extended the judicial custody of eight policemen till October 28, including the Inspector General of police (IG), arrested in connection with the custodial death of accused of Kotkhai minor rape and murder case.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in August arrested eight people, including IG Zahoor Zaidi and Deputy Superintendant of Police (DSP) Manoj Joshi, in relation to the custodial death of an accused of raping and killing a minor girl in Kotkhai region of Shimla district.

An Special Investigation Team (SIT), headed by Zaidi, had taken the six youth to an undisclosed location for interrogation, where one of the accused died in police custody.

The accused had raped and murdered a girl student at Mahasu Government School in Kothkai when she was returning back from school on July 4.

Two days later, police recovered her body from Halaila forests of Kotkhai. The post-mortem report had revealed injury marks on the dead girl's body.

This incident had sparked widespread outrage in the town and people came out to protest at many places, demanding immediate arrest of the accused. (ANI)
