Kushinagar Train Accident LIVE Updates: The driver of the school van was wearing headphones therefore he could not hear the sound of the moving train

UP: In a tragic incident, a 13 school children and 1 driver got killed, as a train hit a school van on early Thursday morning. The incident also left 8 people injured. As per sources, the van was heading to school with 13 children and crossing a railway track; when suddenly a fast moving train crossed the track; leaving the van in a very bad state and killing the young children and their driver. The families of the students were informed immediately after the incident, but sadly no one could be saved and all the children died on the spot. As per sources, the driver had worn earphones while driving the bus, which led to the massive accident as he could not hear the sound of the approaching train. Vice President Venkaiah Naidu on Thursday, took to his twitter account and expressed grief over the incident. He also condoled the families of the victims.

VED PRAKASH (ADDITIONAL PRO, RAILWAYS) ON KUSHINAGAR ACCIDENT -This is very sad incident, A tata magic carrying school students around 7-10am in the morning There is a passenger train 55075 which goes from sevan to kaptanganj • Train was near lodhai station and collided there with Tata magic • It was unmanned level crossing gate where crossing is not allowed • In the unmanned level crossing where driver is responsible to come and stand in front of track or signal and give signal to cross • We have worked in a dedicated way to finish all unmanned level crossing • In last 4 year we have discontinued 5900 unmanned level crossing and will eliminate rest 2-300 • In this kind of case we have deployed a ‘gate mitra’ man who stand on the gate of such crossing gate and counsel people do and don’t while crossing • In this case man who was on gate mitra duty tried to stop tata magic’s driver but he didn’t stop and ramped with the coming training • This can be declared by state government, all injured were sent to local hospital • As per the news 7 are injured • No rail mitra is fine • No, no effect on railway operations • Railway minister declared 2 lakh compensation to each family as well as state government

In a similar incident, a school bus collided with a truck in Delhi's Keshavpuram. The incident left 11 children injured. The cops reached the location and rushed all the injured students to the hospital. The incident claimed the life of a 7-year-old girl, who succumbed to her injuries.
