If you can't address farmers' issue, go; we'll take over: Rahul tells PM Modi

Amethi (Uttar Pradesh) [India], October 4 (ANI): Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has failed to provide jobs and secure farm incomes and that he should go and let his party take over in this case.

"Modi should not waste India's time and focus on farmers and the youth. If he cannot do it, he should say so. The Congress will take over, we will do it in six months," he told farmers.

Rahul Gandhi is on a three-day visit to Uttar Pradesh, beginning today. He reached his parliamentary constituency Amethi for the first time, after the Congress Party faced a major defeat in the state assembly elections.

Rahul also said that an allegedly botched rollout of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) had hurt small businesses and shopkeepers.

"Do you know how many National Highway did Congress build in Amethi? It's six. When it came to development we have been the first to bring changes. I'm also glad to see the Lucknow Amethi highway being made into four lanes, which will help in faster transport and easy travel," he added.

Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to hold 'chaupals' with farmers, meetings with locals as well as party workers during this visit. (ANI)
