Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday addressed the fourth G20 Health Working Group Ministers' meeting held in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. PM Modi stated: "Health is the very foundation of life. The Covid-19 pandemic has reminded us that health should be at the centre of our decisions. It also showed us the value of cooperation," news agency ANI reported.
PM Modi further stated that India is on its way to "eradicate tuberculosis well ahead of the 2030 target".
He stated that we must be equipped to avoid, prepare for, and respond to the next health crisis. "We must be ready to prevent, prepare and respond to the next health emergency. This is especially important in today's interconnected world...In India, we are following an inclusive & holistic approach, we are expanding health infrastructure, promoting the traditional system of medicine and providing affordable health care to all. The global celebration of International Day of Yoga is a testament to the universal desire for holistic health," he stated.
On August 19, a Joint Health-Finance Ministers Meeting will also be convened in Gandhinagar, according to authorities. The Health Ministers will attend in person, while the Finance Ministers will participate virtually. Dignitaries from all around the world are slated to attend, including ministers from Argentina, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, and Nepal, among others.
Meditation and yoga classes will be given in the morning on August 19. Following that, discussions will be held on Strengthening Cooperation in the Pharmaceutical Sector, with a focus on the Availability and Access to Safe, Effective, Quality, and Affordable Medical Countermeasures — VTDs (Vaccine, Therapeutics, and Diagnostics) and Digital Health Innovation & Solutions to Aid Universal Health Coverage & Improve Healthcare Service Delivery.
Mansukh Mandaviya will provide final comments during the closing session. Following that, the delegates will go to 'Dandi Kutir,' which will be followed by a cultural evening and a gala supper.
