New Delhi: Bollywood actor Kareena Kapoor Khan shed light on her ability to stay grounded amid the ever-changing dynamics of the film industry, crediting her husband, Saif Ali Khan for giving her exposure to many things outside of the movies. Speaking during the 'Queen of Hearts One Actor, Many Acts' session at the ABP Network’s Ideas of India Summit, Kareena shared insights into how she manages to detach herself from the relentless pressures of the 'box office nexus.'
Kareena Kapoor on Saif keeping her grounded
Acknowledging the challenges of navigating the unpredictable nature of stardom, Kareena confessed that avoiding the "vicious, never-ending circle of success and failure" is tough. In response to a question about how she insulates herself from such uncertainties, she explained that her marriage to Saif has been instrumental in maintaining balance.
“When you're successful, it's never enough. You want to constantly keep chasing it. So, I feel that somewhere, I can speak for myself that I've just learned to say that this is what I want to do and only this much and I want to step back. I've seen it all I've done it all but now I have to find happiness and some sort of comfort in other things apart from just chasing this box off his nexus You know this nexus that just sucks you in,” the actor said.
Crediting Saif for keeping her grounded she said, “I think I'm very lucky in that sense because I have to give a lot of credit to Saif. My marriage to him grounded me a lot, gave me a sort of comfort, and a lot of exposure to a lot of other things outside the movies."
She continued, highlighting the broader perspective that Saif introduced into her life, "Whether it's friendships from school, college, family, cousins, travel, watching sunsets, going to hills. When he was shooting a film in Dharamshala, I was pregnant and I spent three weeks there with him. And I had a great time just exploring. Not being in front of the camera, walking around, going to the market, just enjoying your time not being an actor. I think he exposed me to that which I started enjoying. And once you start that, I think you find that balance."
Talking about the importance of consciously engaging with people outside the film industry, Kareena shared, "It's difficult, but you make a conscious effort to also engage with people outside the film fraternity. I think that also makes it a lot easier. And we've maintained a lot of friendships from when we were a lot younger and before the movies. So I think that somehow just gives you a break and slightly more exposed to the real world of what's happening outside of movies."
Saif and Kareena's pact of not working from June to August
Addressing the challenges of balancing work and family life, Kareena shared that when one of them is shooting, the other is always at home with the kids. Additionally, the couple has made a pact not to work together from June to August, ensuring quality family time.
"If I want to do a film, we try that Saif is at home when Saif is shooting for a film, then I try to be at home because we want that one of us should always be with the kids. And then we take out that time where like for in a year, two and a half months, we won't work together, which is June to August. And that is like a pact. That's the longest period that Taimur gets his holidays. So, we want to spend time together, travel, or be at home. The idea is that we just have to be together. Neither of us wants to work at that time," she shared.
Kareena Kapoor Khan and Saif Ali Khan, who tied the knot in 2012, are proud parents to two kids, Taimur and Jeh.
