New Delhi: The National Technical Group on Immunisation (NTAGI) on Monday will hold a meeting to discuss over the issues of child immunisation and administering the additional dose of Covid-19 vaccine to the immunocompromised people, sources said.

According to an earlier report of news agency ANI, the National Technical Group on Immunisation will come up with comprehensive policies regarding child immunization and the additional dose of Covid vaccine for the immunocompromised people.

There is a difference between a booster dose and an additional dose of Covid vaccine.

While a booster shot is given only after a pre-defined time period after taking both the primary doses, an additional dose of the vaccine is administered to only those who have basic problems with their body’s immune functions. In case they are not able to grow sufficient immunity against the Covid virus, an additional vaccine dose is administered to boost their immunity.

The decision comes in the wake of the rising cases of the new Covid variant Omicron. Fear has once again gripped the people of the country as the tally reached 21 on Sunday with new cases being detected in states like Delhi, Maharashtra and Rajasthan, after Karnataka and Gujarat reported new cases earlier.

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, on the issue of administering Covid booster doses, had recently informed the Lok Sabha that the National Technical Group on Immunisation and the National Expert Group on Vaccine Administration for Covid-19 (NEGVAC) were deliberating and considering the scientific evidence related to this matter.
