New Delhi: Even though cases of Coronavirus have continued to rise in India, the Health Ministry has maintained that the recovery rate is also high. The ministry on Saturday said that the recovery rate stands at 48.20 per cent, from a total of 2,36,657 confirmed cases.

"During the last 24 hours, a total of 4,611 Covid-19 patients have been cured. Thus, so far, a total of 1,14,073 patients have been cured of Covid-19. The recovery rate is 48.20 percent amongst Covid-19 patients," the Ministry said.

India has now surpassed Italy to become the sixth worst affected country by the virus. India recorded a massive surge in the cases on Saturday with 9,887 new cases.


According to data by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare at present, the total number of Coronavirus cases in India has reached 2,36,657, which includes 115942 active cases.

The death toll is also slowly climbing and on Saturday 294 fatalities were recorded taking the overall death toll to 6,642. But on the bright side, 114073 patients have recovered from the illness so far.

Maharashtra continues to be the state with the highest concentration of Coronavirus cases with a total of 80,229. This is followed by Tamil Nadu (28694), Delhi(26334) and Gujarat (19094).

The Ministry has also said that the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has increased its testing capacities as cases continue to soar. So far, the research institute has tested a total of 45,24,317 samples and 1,37,938 in the last 24 hours.

"ICMR has further ramped up the testing capacity for detecting the novel Coronavirus in infected persons. The number of government labs has been increased to 520 and private labs to 222," said the ministry.
