With a single-day spike of 90,633 new Coronavirus cases, India's COVID-19 tally crossed the 41 lakh mark on Sunday, making the country stand as second-worst globally after the United States in terms of Coronavirus cases. As per the latest bulletin issued by the Ministry of Health, India recorded more than 1,065 deaths in the last 24 hours, pushing the cumulative toll reach at 70,626.

The total case tally stands at 41,13,812. Of these, about 8,62,320 are active cases of the novel COVID-19 while 31,80,866 have been cured and discharged from the hospitals.

Five states including Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh have contributed the most number of new Coronavirus cases in India in the last 24 hours. According to the latest updates, these five states account for over 62 percent of the active cases.



Even though the daily confirmed cases in the country are amongst the highest in the world, it is to be noted that the recovery rate in India is quite impressive. As per the latest data shown by the Union Health Ministry, India's recovery rate has touched a record high of more than 70,000 patients being discharged in a single day.

The five states, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh which registered the most number of new cases, also reported the maximum recoveries. As per the data, these states have contributed to 60 percent of the total recoveries.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research, the country in September tested 10,92,654 samples for the pathogen in a single day, and over 4.88 crore samples have been tested so far.

On Saturday, the Union Health Ministry said that India's Case Fatality Rate has touched 1.73 percent following a gradient of steady and sustained decline.

India has now surpassed Brazil in terms of the total number of Coronavirus infected cases. With this, India has reached at number two position in terms of COVID-19 cases. America has reported the highest number of Coronavirus cases in the world.
