India had crossed the 20-lakh mark on Friday after the number of new cases reported per day witnessed a surge. The country recorded the highest number of recoveries in a single day with 47,747 coronavirus patients having recovered and discharged on Monday.
Now, India has 28.21 per cent active cases, 69.80 per cent cured/discharged/migrated and 1.99 per cent deaths.
The five most-affected states by number of cases are Maharashtra (5,24,513), Tamil Nadu (296,901), Andhra Pradesh (227,860), Karnataka (178,087), and Delhi (1,46,134).
As many as 4,77,023 samples were tested on Sunday, a sharp drop in testing after the highest ever over 7 lakh tests on Saturday. A total of 2,45,83,558 samples have been tested so far, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research.
Globally, the coronavirus pandemic has touched a grim milestone on Monday as it surpassed 20 million cases leaving the human race amid a historic pandemic.
Meanwhile, the Expert Committee on vaccine administration under the chairmanship of NITI Aayog member Dr V K Paul will meet on Wednesday to consider the logistics and ethical aspects of procurement and administration of Covid-19 vaccine.
The Committee will engage with all the stakeholders including state governments and vaccine manufacturers.
