BJP president JP Nadda became the latest politician to test positive for Covid-19. "I got my Covid test done after showing initial symptoms. My report has come positive. I am feeling fine now," JP Nadda tweeted. On Monday, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai also tested positive for the virus.

An analysis of government data showed that of the 46 Covid-19 patients who died in Delhi between January 5 and January 9, 34 had comorbidities such as cancer and heart and liver diseases. Only 11 of the 46 were vaccinated against Covid. The data also revealed that 25 of these patients were aged above 60 and 14 aged between 41 and 60. Five fatalities were recorded in the 21-40 age group, while one patient each from the 0-15 and 16-20 age cohorts succumbed to the infection, the data showed.

Andhra Pradesh has decided to impose night curfew from 11 PM to 5 AM afresh in view of the spurt in number of Covid cases over the past few days. The decision was taken at a high-level review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy. The state registered over 4,000 cases in the last five days.


As per the revised order, only 200 people will be permitted for any outdoor event and half that number for an indoor event. Only alternate seating will be permitted in cinema halls and auditoria.

Amid a surge in COVID-19 cases, the Jammu and Kashmir administration on Sunday issued fresh guidelines, including the adoption of online classes up to college level, and optimal use of virtual mode for conducting official meetings.

The precautionary Covid-19 vaccination dose for health and frontline workers and senior citizens above 60 years of age with comorbidities will start today. The eligible population who already received their two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine and are eligible for the booster dose will not be required to undergo new registration.


How To Book An Appointment? 


There is no need for new registration of those taking the precautionary dose, they can directly take an appointment from Saturday or walk-in, the Union Health Ministry had said.



  1. To book an appointment, visit the CoWIN website or app.

  2. Sign-in through registered mobile number.

  3. The website will send you an OTP to verify, you can also log in using your Aarogya Setu account

  4. Click on Register for the vaccine.

  5. You will be asked to pick your nearest vaccination centre.

  6. Select your time slot based on availability. You can either choose the morning or afternoon slot.

  7. You will get a message on your registered number when you successfully book a slot.

  8. Do not forget to carry your Photo ID like Aadhar to the vaccination center.

Coronavirus highlights: India saw a single-day rise of 1,79,723 coronavirus infections on Monday, including 4,033 cases of the Omicron variant reported across 27 states and union territories so far, according to data by the Union Health Ministry.


Meanwhile, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh tested positive for Covid-19 on Monday. Informing about it on Twitter, Rajnath Singh said he had mild symptoms and was under home quarantine.

In a letter to states and Union Territories, the Centre on Monday said five to 10 per cent of the active Covid-19 cases required hospitalisation so far.


Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan, however, said the situation was dynamic and might change rapidly. The Centre asked states to keep a watch on cases under home isolation and in hospitals.


"In the present surge, five to 10 per cent of active cases needed hospitalisation so far. The situation is dynamic and evolving. Therefore, the need for hospitalisation may also change rapidly," Bhushan said.

During the devastating second wave last year, the hospitalisation rate was in the range of 20-23 per cent, the letter to states said.


In the letter, Bhushan said the spike in Covid-19 cases appeared to be driven by the Omicron variant as well as by the continued presence of Delta. 


The government asked the states to augment human resources, particularly healthcare workers, for Covid management.
