New Delhi: India is once again undergoing a surge in Coronavirus cases as the nation on Sunday recorded 25,320 new Covid-19 infections which is the highest daily rise in 84 days, taking the total tally to 1,13,59,048.


According to Union health ministry data, 7 states currently contribute to 87.73 percent of the new cases reported in the last 24 hours.

The states are Maharashtra, Kerala, Punjab, Karnataka, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh which have been recording a steep rise in the daily new Covid-19 cases.


Maharashtra has registered the highest daily new cases at 15,602, followed by Kerala at 2,035 and Punjab with 1,510 new cases.


At this point, active cases have reached the 2.10 lakh mark and 3 states: Maharashtra, Kerala, Punjab account for 76.93 percent of India's total active cases.



The total number of recoveries has reached 1,09,89,897 with 16,637 people discharges reported in the last 24 hours.


The ministry further informed that 83.13 percent of the new recovered cases are observed to be concentrated in six states.


Maharashtra has reported the maximum number with 7,467 single-day recoveries.



Meanwhile, six states account for 84.47 percent of the new Covid-19 deaths. Maharashtra recorded the maximum casualties at 88. Followed by, Punjab which witnessed 22 fatalities and Kerala had 12 deaths.


Meanwhile, 14 states and Union Territories that have not reported any Covid-19 deaths in the last 24 hours are Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Puducherry, Lakshadweep, Meghalaya, Daman and Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Nagaland, Tripura, Sikkim, Ladakh, Manipur, Mizoram, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and Arunachal Pradesh.


On the vaccination front, the country is nearing 3 crore cumulative doses as a total of 2,97,38,409 vaccine doses have been administered, a provisional report on Sunday revealed.
