Ahead Of Unlock 4 India's Covid 19 Tally Crosses 34 Lakh With A Spike Of 76,400, Death Toll Third Worst Globally

As India prepares for Unlock 4 the coronavirus cases in the country surge past 34 lakhs while on Thursday India registered most coronavirus cases in the world on a single day.

Coronavirus in India: India's Covid-19 case tally crossed 34 lakh-mark with a spike of 76,472 new cases and 1,021 deaths in the last 24 hours. This is the fourth straight day that the country reported more than 1,000 Covid-19 fatalities. The total count in the country stands at 34,63,973, including 7,52,424 active cases, the health ministry said on Saturday. The number of new cases in India on Thursday was the highest in the world, crossing that of the United States. Though the country is recording around 1,000 deaths a day from the coronavirus, roughly the same as the US and Brazil, India is far better than these countries when we consider the number of deaths per million people.
Five most affected Indian states by total tally of cases are Maharashtra (747,995), Tamil Nadu (409,238), Andhra Pradesh (403,616), Karnataka (318,000), and Uttar Pradesh (213,824). Delhi recorded 1,808 fresh Covid-19 cases, taking its tally to 1,69,412.
Ahead of Unlock 4.0, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Friday asked gym owners to frame standard operating procedures (SOPs) and enlist the measures they would take to prevent the spread of coronavirus if their establishments are allowed to operate. He added that based on the submission of the SOPs, a decision on restarting gyms in the state would be taken. BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis, on the other hand, said that religious places in Maharashtra should be opened as in other states. If liquor shops and malls can reopen with the relaxation of lockdown, why should religious places remain closed, he said. On Friday, the state reported 14,361 COVID cases, which pushed its overall tally to 7,47,995, a state health official told news agency PTI. The death toll due to the virus reached 23,775 as the state reported 331 fatalities during the day, he added.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh has quarantined himself after two Congress MLAs who met him during the Assembly session on Friday tested positive for the disease.
Jharkhand has extended its lockdown restrictions till September 30. India's Covid-19 recovery rate improves to 76.47% as of August 29. There is a steady improvement in recovery rate since lockdown initiation on March 25. The total number of samples tested up to August 28 is 4,04,06,609 including 9,28,761 samples tested yesterday: Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). Coronavirus world update As many as 24,888,299 people around the world have been diagnosed with Covid-19. While more than 17,276,321 have recovered, 840,431 have died so far. The US, which has 6,094,522 cases, is followed by Brazil, which has 3,812,605.
