New Delhi: Trek to Yomi is set to release today, May 5, on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. It’s not often that we get many great side-scrollers on PC and consoles nowadays. Sure, there are rare modern gems such as Cuphead and Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove. However, they mostly get buried under a plethora of AAA titles which are mostly open-world sandboxes or multiplayer battle royales. So, what’s so special about Trek To Yomi? Read on to find out.
Trek to Yomi has been developed by Warsaw-based Flying Wild Hog, the same studio behind the excellent first-person shooter series, Shadow Warrior. Judging by the launch trailer, Trek to Yomi promises to be a one-of-a-kind action-adventure title that may remind you of Akira Kurosawa movies, thanks to its unique black-and-white treatment.
Trek to Yomi: Story
Set in Japan’s Edo period, Trek to Yomi revolves around Hiroki, a young warrior who embarks on a bloody-yet-poignant journey to face off against the villains who destroyed his village.
Trek to Yomi: Gameplay
If you liked Ghost of Tsushima, chances are you may fall in love with Trek to Yomi’s gameplay. Armed with classic Samurai weapons such as a Katana and Bo Shurikens, Hiroki moves and plays just like Tsushima’s memorable protagonist, Jin Sakai.
Trek to Yomi: Release Date, Release Time
As mentioned, Trek to Yomi is set to release today, May 5, at 6am PT (6:30pm IST).
Trek to Yomi: Price in India
Trek to Yomi is priced at Rs 629 on Steam, Rs 1,664 on PlayStation Store, and Rs 1,099 on Microsoft Store for Xbox.
Trek to Yomi: Why you shouldn’t miss
While open world action games and first person shooters are incredibly fun to play, some gamers (like me) miss those old-school side scrollers that we grew up with, including the likes of Super Mario Bros., Adventure Island, and the classic Prince of Persia. From trying to clear levels without dying once, to replaying each level several time just to beat your own high score — these games kept us hooked for hours.
Trek to Yomi is marked by its striking grayscale treatment with film grain overlay and atmospheric level designs, putting everything from pouring rains to burning villages to best use. The gameplay looks smooth, and the action looks hard-hitting.
On top of all that, you can grab your copy of Trek to Tomi at a pocket-friendly price that’s usually seen in the case of indie games. If you have an Xbox Game Pass, well, you’re in luck. Trek to Yomi will be available to all subscribers at launch.
