New Delhi: The 2011 movie ‘The Dirty Picture’ is a biographical drama produced by Ekta Kapoor, inspired by the life of actress Silk Smitha, popularly known for her erotic roles. Featuring Vidya Balan playing the role of the protagonist, the story resembled the lives of other women in the popular culture other than Silk Smitha. Helmed by Milan Luthria, ‘The Dirty Picture’ is considered as one of Vidya Balan’s best performances.


Vidya Balan’s performance in ‘The Dirty Picture’ earned her many awards and accolades. She was witnessed playing a powerful woman, who contributed something unique in the typically male-dominated society. The movie released on Silk Smitha’s birthday December 2, in the year 2011.


As ‘The Dirty Picture’ completes 10 years of its release today, lead actress Vidya Balan took to her Instagram and shared a post appreciating the movie.


Vidya Balan wrote while sharing, “An era where men ruled, she was the storm that feared no one. Inspiring and unapologetic, celebrating her legacy, celebrating 10 years of #TheDirtyPicture We will always miss you #BobbySingh”.



‘The Dirty Picture’ also featured Naseeruddin Shah, Emraan Hashmi and Tusshar Kapoor in pivotal roles. Not only the script and performances of these artist but the dialogues of this movie also became extremely popular. The movie released in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, and was both a critical and commercial success. ‘The Dirty Picture’ went on to earn the status of blockbuster in 2011.


Meanwhile, Vidya Balan was last seen featuring in a lead role in Amazon Prime Video movie ‘Sherni’. She will reportedly be next seen featuring in Sagarika Ghose’s web series ‘Indira – India’s Most Powerful Prime Minister’.
