Divyanka Tripathi slammed Mukesh Khanna for saying that the #MeToo movement started after women stepped out for work.
New Delhi: Veteran actor Mukesh Khanna, fondly known for his role as Shaktiman, stirred controversy with his comment on the #MeToo movement. The 'Mahabharat' actor that the social movement started after women started considering themselves as equal to men and stepped out for work. Khanna received flak on social media and several netizens dubbed his comment as 'sexist' and criticized him. In his caption, the 'Pyaar Ka Dard Hai' actor mentioned that he was surprised to see his comment being taken out of context. He wrote, "It is being said that I am against women. Hardly anyone would have that kind of respect which I have for women. This is the reason I opposed the title Laxmmi Bomb. I am worried about the safety of the women. I have even spoken against rape cases." “I never said that women should not work. I was only going to tell how 'Me Too' thing starts. Women have established themselves in every field in the country. Women have held positions of defence minister, finance minister, foreign minister and proved their mettle in various fields. So how can I be against a working woman?" he added.
