New Delhi: Veteran actor Mukesh Khanna, fondly known for his role as Shaktiman, stirred controversy with his comment on the #MeToo movement. The 'Mahabharat' actor that the social movement started after women started considering themselves as equal to men and stepped out for work. Popular TV actress Divyanka Tripathi also expressed her displeasure over Mukesh Khanna's 'MeToo' comment on Twitter. While replying a tweet, the 'Yeh Hai Mohabbatein' star condemned his remark and called it 'regressive and outdated'. How regressive & outdated is that! It's cringeworthy when people at respectable positions make such remarks. Misogyny may be a result of a traumatic memory or past. That's the only benefit of doubt I can think of. Mukesh Khanna REACTS To Backlash, Defends His Comment

The actor shared the clip of the interview which hogged all the limelight and defended his comment. He said that the 'controversial remark' was taken from the interview to malign him. “I am not against Women Working. As I said let me show you my full interview taken by someone from which this ‘Vivadit Bayan’ has been taken to malign me that I mean This which I don’t mean. I was just commenting on how Me too can happen. You can see yourself in this interview how I respect women,” Khanna wrote.
Mukesh Khanna posted an old video in which he can be seen talking about #MeToo. In his caption, the 'Pyaar Ka Dard Hai' actor mentioned that he was surprised to see his comment being taken out of context. He wrote, "It is being said that I am against women. Hardly anyone would have that kind of respect which I have for women. This is the reason I opposed the title Laxmmi Bomb. I am worried about the safety of the women. I have even spoken against rape cases." “I never said that women should not work. I was only going to tell how 'Me Too' thing starts. Women have established themselves in every field in the country. Women have held positions of defence minister, finance minister, foreign minister and proved their mettle in various fields. So how can I be against a working woman?" he added.
