New Delhi: 'Sarabhai vs Sarabhai' actor Vaibhavi Upadhyaya died in a road accident in Himachal Pradesh's Kullu district on Monday. The last rites of the actor were performed in Wednesday in Mumbai. The actress was on a road trip in Himachal Pradesh with her fiance businessman Jay Gandhi. He survived the accident with some injuries. 


Vaibhavi’s close friend Actor Akangsha Rawat spoke to ETimes about Vaibhavi. Akangsha also shared that Vaibhavi got engaged to Jay on February 14.  


"Vaibhavi and I had auditioned for a TV show Solah Singaar in 2006. That was my first show and I had met Vaibhavi then. She and I connected and became best friends later. I had texted her just a few days ago, when she took this road trip and had asked her about her marriage plans, since she just got engaged recently. She got engaged to Jay on February 14 It was not an elaborate affair, just the two families exchanged 'gol-dhana' according to Gujarati customs and rituals,” she was quoted as saying by ETimes. 


Akangsha also shared about the accident and how it happened. 


“A truck hit them from the side while turning and that caused the car to slip into the valley. I got to know about this from her brother Ankit. Her parents are in deep shock. They were on a holiday in Australia and returned after they heard the news. I can't imagine her mom's condition right now. They reached Mumbai last night,” she told ETimes. 


Producer JD Majethia, who worked with Vaibhavi in 'Sarabhai vs Sarabhai', also spoke about the accident and shared that Vaibhavi was not wearing a seat belt. 


He told paparazzo Viral Bhayani, “She was in Himachal with her fiance. They were to marry in December. Their car was at a turn and the road was quite narrow. They stopped to let a truck pass. As the truck was passing them, it nudged the car and it slid into the valley. It toppled and she was not wearing a seatbelt.”  


Vaibhavi had also worked in TV shows, including 'CID' and 'Adaalat'. She made her film debut with Deepika Padukone's 2020 film 'Chhapaak'.
