Kolkata: Television actor Shruti Das has filed a police complaint after receiving a barrage of abusive comments online, about her dark skin tone since 2019 after getting a break in Bengali serials.

Das, 23, is the first woman in the Tollywood industry to formally file a complaint against abuse. Das told, "The issue is that there is no such protest against the comments made about the artists in social media. If we look at the pages of some of the artists, we can always see that at least some such comments are being posted. But no one opposes. The racist comments are about "why is someone from there and why aren't we boycotting them". This has been going on since 2019. But the situation is getting bad to worse and this trend continues every day."

Das, who plays the leading character of 'Nooh' who played in the series 'Desher Mati', says online abuse started pouring in since she got the role in 2019, as the series started becoming more popular, there was a decrease in the number of comments.

Shruti Das said, "Yesterday, someone from my hometown commented on the Star Jalsha page. So, since I realized that someone I know is doing this, I decided to file a complaint against it. I have spoken to the cyber cell and they are actively participating in the matter and coordinating with me."

On Thursday, in a social media post, she tagged Kolkata Police citing abuse

She said, "There should be some law regarding cyberbullying and it should be punishable. So, I hope this issue will come to a complete halt. No action has been taken till now.”

The actress further said, "I have contacted Madi. she has told me that there has been some old rage which she has vented on social media. I told her that she has formally apologized to me twice. She said that she is a newly married girl and hence I should leave her. My boyfriend asked her to apologize and tag me on social media. She did but within an hour the profile was not reflecting. I don't know what happened. The cyber cell is asking for her number but I don't know whether to give it or not."
