Shraddha Walkar Case: After Backlash Over Similar Episode In Crime Patrol, Sony TV Issues Statement

Sony TV issues statement regarding 'Crime Patrol' episode allegedly similar to Sharddha Walkar's case.

New Delhi: Following intense criticism for a recent 'Crime Patrol' episode that featured a premise resembling Sharddha Walkar's case, Sony TV has issued a statement denying any connection to the case.

Through its Twitter account, Sony TV released a statement claiming that the aforementioned episode was a "work of fiction" and that it was based on a 2011 incident.

“Some viewers have commented on social media about a recent episode of “Crime Patrol” on SET resembling a recent incident reported in the media. We wish to clarify that while the episode is a work of fiction, it is based on certain events that occurred in 2011 and not connected to any recent case,” the statement read.

“We take every care to ensure our content meets broadcasting standards laid down by the regulatory bodies. However, in this case, respecting the sentiments expressed by our viewers, we have discontinued the airing of the episode. If the telecast has hurt the sentiments of any of our viewers, we wish to express our sincere regrets,” it further mentioned.

Recently, the show's producers aired an episode, and viewers immediately recognised how closely the plotline mirrored the murder case of Shraddha Walkar.

Meanwhile, the next hearing for Shraddha Walkar's case is scheduled for January 6, 2023. According to allegations, Aaftab Poonawalla strangled and chopped into 35 pieces his live-in spouse Shraddha. In addition, he is accused of chilling the cut body parts before throwing them in Delhi and Gurugram's forests.

The police had earlier claimed that Aaftab, who admitted to killing Shraddha and chopping up her body into 35 pieces, was presenting false information.
