New Delhi: Shark Tank India Season 2’s latest episode was all about food pitches. The sharks saw pitches from sectors like healthy eating to indulgent eating and ice cream for pets.
The first pitch was by a snacking brand called Healthy Masters with a motto of ‘junk free India’. Healthy Master pitch was appreciated by all sharks, however all except Namita Thapar decided to invest in their business.
Namita gave an offer of Rs. 50 lakhs for 6.5% equity and applauded the brand for its no-sugar policy and that of keeping the moms out of kitchen.
The second pitch by Kitsons was also quite impressive. The founder being a retired army personnel whose experience and discipline was appreciated by sharks.
However, none of the sharks chose to invest in the business asking the founders to get more involved in their own business to grow it.
The third pitch by London Bubble Co. brought Namita to share personal memories of her home where her kids love to eat waffles and pancakes for Sunday breakfast.
The company’s journey of shutting down 126 cafes in India and pivoting their brand towards the product of waffles and pancakes also impressed the sharks a lot. However, there was a difference of opinion among sharks related to the company’s product.
While Vineeta said that their product was quite unhealthy and not so good for kids because of a sugar spike, Namita countered to say that ‘not everything needs to be healthy’. Some things could also be a part of the ‘indulgent eating’ food category.
Later, out of all sharks, it was only Namita who made an offer of 75 lakhs for 15% equity to the founders who accepted her offer.
A last pitch by a brand called Waggy Zone which makes ice cream mixes for pets was grilled by a lot of sharks. Calling it ‘a shauq’ ( a hobby), Anupam Mittal dismissed the founder for not making a business but just a solution to a small problem which has no scale or profit. He also told the founder that she ‘was out of touch with the ground reality’ and that she should explore more before taking such a business decision.
Aman Gupta also confided how he would never himself eat an ice cream worth Rs. 200 or allow his kids, and asked the founder to reassess her company.
