MasterChef Australia is an immensely popular show in India and many other countries, and its title song — "Burning up in my heart..." — has had the fans of the popular cooking competition jive to its tune ever since it hit the TV screens. The show has a unique style of introducing the contestants who would throw flour, flip pans, or slice up a flying apple as the song played in the background.

Not many may, however, know that while 'Burning up' is the song MasterChef uses for its international editions, in Australia the Channel 10 show intro plays a different number. Since its launch in 2009, the MasterChef show in Australia opens with an iconic track by popular American singer Katy Perry. The 2008 single, 'Hot n Cold', has been synonymous with the MasterChef show in Australia as the audiences have loved it ever since. In fact, Katy Perry made a special appearance in Season 12 of the show in 2020.

In a surprise decision, however, the 2023 season, which got under way last month, dropped the intro altogether. Every episode now begins with a recap and then jumps straight into the action, DailyMail reported.

The decision does not seem to have gone down well with the viewers, with many of the show fans taking to social media to air their disappointment. Check out some of the reactions:

Why 'Hot n Cold' Was Dropped

While the makers of MasterChef and Channel 10 have not issued any statement in this regard, giving reasons for dropping the track, a report by Yahoo Lifestyle, quoting sources, said the licensing fees for the song had become too expensive.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the world, 'Burning up' continues to be played during the opening credits of Season 15 episodes.
