Excerpts from the interview
You are all set to make Bollywood debut with ‘Radha Kyu Gori’. Please tell us something about your role in the film?
I can’t talk about ‘Radha Kyu Gori’ right now. I won’t call the film my debut in Bollywood as another project is in pipeline. Let’s not talk about the film right now.
Are you excited to be part of the film?
It’s like a dream come true to feature on the silver screen. And the icing on the cake is when you have a good team to work with. The team is pretty good.
We saw you grooving on the song ‘Maro Line’. How was your experience working with the team of Patel Ki Punjabi Shaadi’?
The team of ‘Patel Ki Punjabi Shaadi’ worked with me when people in the TV industry were not ready to work with me. It was a great opportunity for me to share screen space with a veteran actor like Rishi Kapoor.
You will be working with another Bigg Boss winner Manveer Gurjar in ‘Radha Kyu Gori’? What you say?
I liked Manveer's game in Bigg Boss 1o and finally got to meet him on BB 12's opening episode. Of all the seasons of Bigg Boss, I only watched his season. I am excited to work with him and the entire team. The biggest thing for me is that Salman sir recommended my name for the film.
I am quite similar to the character I play in the film and I am glad Salman sir offered me this role. In short, my role is similar to Basanti from ‘Sholay’.
When will you make a comeback to television in a daily soap or weekend fiction show?
This will only happen when I will turn into a producer. When the TV producers said that they would ban me, I said I would become a producer.
What kind of shows you will make as a producer? Right now, TV is all set about Naagin, Chudail and Dayaan.
Makhi bhi (laughs). I want to make light-hearted shows that can entertain the audience similar to the ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’. I want to make shows which bring a smile on people’s faces and entertain them.
To be frank, I loved the character which Rakhi Sawant is playing in Manmohini. It's quite entertaining. She is superb, hats-off to her. Of course, I won’t play a Maharashtrian Chudail (laughs).
Many Bollywood and TV stars are switching to the digital medium. When can we see you in a web series?
I have been offered some good web series but I had to reject them because they involved nudity and I am not comfortable with such scenes. If the scripts demand, then I am fine, otherwise I am not willing to do such scenes. I believe in quality and not quantity.
There were rumours about you hosting Bigg Boss Marathi. What you have to say?
These were all baseless rumours. I was never offered to host the show. And I have to say Mahesh Manjrekar sir hosted the show perfectly.
So, if given a chance will you host any season of Bigg Boss Marathi or Bigg Boss?
Itni badi to main nhi hu. Acha Kaam to sabko karna hai. Abhi main kuch nhi bol sakti. ( I am not that big enough to host Bigg Boss but everyone wants to do quality work in his/her career. I can't say anything right now.)
We last saw you on ‘Dhan Dhana Dhan’. What about other reality shows?
I wanted to do Khatron Ke Khiladi when Akshay Kumar was hosting the show. Not many know that I did my own stunts when I played a negative role in Star Plus’ ‘Bhabhi’. Although, I was offered to be a part of KKK, I said no because I wanted Akshay to be the show’s host.
You played a cameo in the Marathi show ‘Chhatriwali’. Tell us something more about it.
It was not a cameo but a guest appearance for the engagement track. The creative producer of the show, who was also a creative on ‘Bhabhi’, approached me for the show. I wanted to wear a traditional Maharashtrian outfit and the makers agreed to it. I had a great time shooting for the show.
Stay tuned for the second part of the interview.
