New Delhi: On June 14, 2020, Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead in his Bandra home in Mumbai. His body was found hanging from a ceiling fan. After multiple investigations, suicide was declared the main cause of death however, many theories suggested otherwise. The investigation relating to his death is still on.


Meanwhile, on the occasion of his death anniversary, fans took to commenting on the actor's old pictures and posts on Instagram, mentioning how much they miss the versatile actor. 


Sushant Singh Rajput was born in Patna, Bihar to a middle-class family. Sushant was interested in astrophysics and won the National Olympiad in Physics in his school days. He wanted to become an astronaut and later an Air Force pilot although he was also interested in pursuing a career in acting. 


Sushant Singh's Career in TV


Sushant Singh Rajput began his career in theatre in Mumbai. He dropped out of Delhi College of Engineering to pursue his career in acting. 


The actor made his debut in the TV show 'Kis Desh Mein Hai Meraa Dil' in 2008 followed by getting the lead and his career's iconic role on TV, in the form of Manav's character from 'Pavitra Rishta' (2009-2011).

After this stint in TV, Sushant got his first big break in the critically-acclaimed film 'Kai Po Che!' in 2013. The film was directed by Abishek Kapoor and starred Sushant Singh Rajput, Rajkummar Rao, and Amit Sadh in lead roles. For 'Kai Po Che' Sushant Singh also received a Filmfare Award for the Best Debut Actor.


After the commercial success of 'Kai Po Che', Sushant Singh featured alongside Parineeti Chopra in a modern-day love story 'Shuddh Desi Romance' in 2013, Rajkumar Hirani's super-successful 'PK' in 2014, and Dibakar Banerjee's acclaimed thriller 'Detective Bymokesh Bakshy' in 2015.


However, it was with MS Dhoni's biopic 'MS Dhoni: The Untold Story' in 2014 that the actor established himself. He became a well-known face and an actor worth great mettle with the portrayal of the cricketer in the film.


Sushant began receiving rave reviews for his versatile performances and was cast in other films like 'Kedarnath', 'Chhichhore', 'Raabta', 'Sonchiriya' and 'Drive'.


He also appeared in 'Dil Bechara' alongside Sanjana Sanghi which was a remake of the Hollywood hit film 'The Fault In Our Stars'. Mukesh Chhabra, the casting director who had cast him for 'Kai Po Che!' and with whom Sushant shared a special bond, made his directorial debut with the film. This was also Sushant's last film. It broke multiple viewership records on Disney+ Hotstar where it gathered 95 million viewers within 24 hours of the film's release.


Sushant was also cast in multiple other films which did not materialize for various reasons. 


Besides films, Sushant was an avid reader and deeply interested in subjects like astrophysics and behavioral economics. In fact, it is said that he carried books on film sets and was often spotted reading them religiously.


Sushant Singh Rajput's relationships had also been quite public and subject to media speculation. Besides dating his 'Pavitra Rishta' co-star Ankita Lokhande, he is rumoured to have been in relationships with Sara Ali Khan and Kriti Sanon.


Later his relationship with Rhea Chakraborty became the talk until Rhea herself confirmed it after Sushant's death.

Sushant Singh Rajput's untimely demise on 14th June 2020 has been attributed to suicide where he was found hanging by a ceiling fan at his home in Bandra, Mumbai. He had reportedly shown signs of bipolar disorder and clinical depression. Although the post-mortem report found no cause of foul play, Sushant's family registered an FIR against Rhea Chakraborty and five others in an abetment to suicide case.


Sushant's death became a highly-speculated affair with an infamous media trial conducted on Rhea Chakraborty. On 31st July, the ED filed a case to investigate money laundering charges against Rhea. Later, the NCB also filed a drug-related case linked to Rajput's death and Rhea was arrested on 8th September 2020.
