Mumbai: National Award-winning veteran actress Surekha Sikri, famous for her roles in films like Badhai Ho, Zubeidaa and has been part of several TV shows like Balika Vadhu, Saat Phere and many more is no more.


She has passed away at the age of 76 due to cardiac arrest, the actress was surrounded by her family in her last moments, who confirmed her death.


She had been unwell for several months and had suffered a brain stroke in 2020 and she had been suffering from complications arising from a second brain stroke. She was surrounded by family and her caregivers. The actress passed away on Friday morning at her home and was surrounded by her family members when she breathed her last.”


Surekha Sikri was last seen in Zoya Akhtar’s segment of the OTT anthology film Ghost Stories that was released last year. The actress won National Awards for her roles in the films Tamas, Mammo.


Sikri was a three-time national award winner and was loved by the audience for her versatile roles in Television and Bollywood.


A career that was across mediums -- theatre, films, and television. She made her debut with 1978 political drama film 'Kissa Kursi Ka'. She is best known for her performances in “Tamas”, “Mammo”, “Salim Langde Pe Mat Ro”, “Zubeidaa”, “Badhaai Ho” and daily soap “Balika Vadhu”. Sikhri was last seen in Zoya Akhtar's segment of the OTT anthology film 'Ghost Stories' that was released in 2020. The actress won National Awards for her roles in the films 'Tamas', 'Mammo' and 'Badhaai Ho'.


She is survived by her son Rahul Sikri.
