Actor Vijay confirmed his decision to leave cinema behind and fully dedicate himself to politics. Speaking at the first-anniversary gathering of his political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), in Mamallapuram, Tamil Nadu, on Wednesday, the star put an end to all speculation by announcing that his upcoming film, 'Jana Nayagan', will be his last.
Vijay confirms Jana Nayagan to be his last film
Currently one of the biggest names in Tamil cinema, Vijay has chosen to step away from acting despite being at the peak of his career. His decision has left many in the film industry—actors, directors, and fans alike—disappointed, as they had hoped he might reconsider after the elections. However, at the TVK meeting, the actor made his intentions crystal clear.
Addressing the gathering, he reiterated his commitment to serving the people and silenced those who questioned his transition into politics. With ‘Jana Nayagan’, helmed by director H Vinoth, Vijay will bid farewell to the silver screen and channel his energy entirely into his political aspirations.
Vijay's political journey
Vijay’s political journey officially began in February last year when he launched Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, with the intent to contest the 2026 elections. He made his first public address as a politician in Vikravandi in October, outlining his party’s ideologies and vision.
Meanwhile, in September, Vijay announced his 69th film, directed by Vinoth and backed by Bengaluru-based distribution house KVN Productions. The project was unveiled with the tagline, “The torchbearer of democracy… arriving soon.”
About Jana Nayagan
The first look of ‘Jana Nayagan’, released in January, showed Vijay brandishing a whip, sparking comparisons to late actor-turned-politician MG Ramachandran, the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. The film boasts an ensemble cast, including Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, Prakash Raj, Bobby Deol, and Gautham Vasudev Menon.
Rumours have been circulating that the film is a remake of Anil Ravipudi’s Telugu film ‘Bhagavanth Kesari’, though an official confirmation is still awaited.
