Renowned filmmaker S.S. Rajamouli, celebrated for his films like Baahubali and RRR, has been caught in the midst of a major controversy. On February 27, 2025, U. Srinivasa Rao, a man who claims to have been Rajamouli’s close friend for over three decades, made startling allegations against the director. In a selfie video and a letter sent to Rajamouli’s associates, Rao accused the filmmaker of actions that allegedly pushed him to contemplate suicide.
What Rajamouli's friend claimed
Srinivasa Rao, now 55, claimed that his long-standing friendship with Rajamouli soured due to a personal dispute involving a woman. According to him, both men were drawn to the same person, and in the interest of their bond, he chose to step aside. However, he alleged that despite this, Rajamouli later turned against him. “I have no option but to die by suicide. Rajamouli is the reason I am still single at 55,” Rao declared in his video message.
He further claimed that their collaboration lasted until the 2007 film ‘Yamadonga’, but their relationship deteriorated thereafter. “We worked together until Yamadonga, but he ruined my career for a woman,” he asserted.
"Rajamouli uses black magic"
Rao alleged that Rajamouli, after reaching the pinnacle of success, began questioning his loyalty and subjected him to persistent harassment. “I am 55 now and I can no longer endure this harassment,” he stated, dismissing any suggestions that his claims were for publicity. He even demanded a lie detector test for Rajamouli and accused him of using “black magic” to eliminate competition in the film industry.
In his video, Rao urged law enforcement to take action, saying, “I request the police officials to inquire into this matter and do justice to me.” He maintained that Rajamouli’s actions, allegedly influenced by the unnamed woman, led to his professional downfall. However, it remains unclear whether any official complaint has been filed or if authorities plan to investigate his claims. As of now, there are no updates on Rao’s condition after the video surfaced.
Rajamouli, known for his grand storytelling and larger-than-life cinematic vision, has yet to address the allegations publicly.
