Actress Sai Pallavi, who will be seen as Sita in Nitesh Tiwari's highly anticipated adaptation of the 'Ramayana', has sparked controversy following the circulation of an old interview clip. In the video, which has gone viral, Pallavi discusses the perception of the Indian army in Pakistan, stating that many there view it as a “terrorist group.”

What Sai Pallavi said in an old viral video

In the clip, originally filmed in January 2022, Pallavi expresses her belief that perspectives on violence can differ significantly based on one's national identity. She is quoted saying, “People in Pakistan think our army is a terrorist group. But for us, it is them. So, the perspective changes. I don't understand violence.”

Netizens react

This statement has drawn sharp criticism from social media users, with many expressing their outrage over her choice of words.

One user remarked sarcastically, “Historian Sai Pallavi is back! Comparing Kashmiri Hindu genocide to cattle smuggling—brilliant insight, right? And now, she’s cast as Mata Sita? Bollywood’s casting is on fire… but not in a good way! At this rate, they’ll be left with an audience of one: their PR team!”

Another added, “So sad this Communist Sai Pallavi is playing the role of Sita Ma in Ramayana.”

Another user wrote, "Indian Army & Pakistan Army – both are the same - Sai Pallavi She’s playing the role of Mata Sita in an upcoming Bollywood movie. She once compared the genocide of Kashmiri Hindus to the lynching of cattle smugglers. It seems she’s quite influenced by Zakir Naik. Don’t watch any movie that includes her."
