New Delhi: Mohanlal is one of the biggest superstars of the South film industry. After being an acting superstar for many yeays, Mohanlal has now decided to wear the director's hat. The Malayalam industry star will be directing 'Barraoz', a film adaptation of Lijo Punnoose's novel 'Barroz: Guardian of D’Gama’s Treasure'.


First announced in 2019, the film was put on hold during the pandemic. Many changes also occured in the meanwhile including the exit of Punnoose from the project. Now on day 1 of 2024, Mohanlal shared a new poster of the film.


 




Taking to his official Instagram handle, Mohanlal shared a new poster of the film featuring him sitting on a hollow horse and weilding a sword. He looks majestic in the new look giving the perfect mythic vibe. 


Barroz's novel is based on a myth about the treasure of Vasco da Gama, who entered India through Kerala. The novel is written by Lijo Punnoose, the creator of India's first 3D film 'My Dear Kuttichathan' (1984). 


'Barroz' also stars Guru Somasundaram, Komal Sharma, and Pranav Mohanlal, Ignacio Mateos, and Ceast Lorente Raton.


Lydian Nadharswaram will be composing music for the film while South African composer Mark Kilian will be doing the background score of the film.


'Barroz' will be an epic fantady film which will mark Mohanlal's directorial debut besides also starring him in the titular lead. 


The film has been produced by  Antony Perumbavoor of Aashirvad Cinemas.


Majority of the filming took place in Kochi, Goa with some filming in Bangkok and Chennai.


After several releaste date announcements and delays, the film will now have an official release on March 28, 2024.


Earlier, ‘Barroz’ was supposed to be released within March 2023. Later, the makers were planning for an Onam 2023 release but no official announcement came throug. Now, it has been announced that 'Barroz' will have a worldwide release on March 28, 2024.
