New Delhi: 'Manjummel Boys' makers have responded to music composer Ilaiyaraaja's notice about unauthorised use of the song Kanmani Anbodu Kadhalan in the Malayalam movie. As per a News Minute report, the producers of the film said that they have not yet received a legal notice from the Tamil music composer for the use of Kanmani Anbodu Kadhalan from the film Gunaa.

Manummel Boys team responds to Ilaiyaraaja's notice


'Kanmani Anbodu Kadhalan' has been used multiple times in the film 'Manjummel Boys'.


Shwan Antony, one of the producers of the film, told The News Minute that they had acquired the rights from the two music companies concerned for using the 'Gunaa' song in their survival drama.


One of the companies holds the rights for the Telugu version, and the other for the remaining languages. We got rights from Pyramid and Sreedevi Sounds, the music companies which own the song," Shawn was quoted by the News Minute.


'Kanmani Anbodu Kadhalan' is from the Kamal Haasan, Rekha film 'Gunaa'. The song is an iconic track and is well-known among generations of music lovers in Tamil cinema.


Ilaiyaraaja sends notice to Manjummel Boys makers


Meanwhile, on Wednesday,  Ilaiyaraaja had issued a legal notice to the makers of 'Manjummel Boys' for the unauthorised use of the song, The Hindu reported.


As per the same report, the veteran musician accused 'Manjummel Boys' makers' for unlawfully exploiting the song Kanmani Anbodu Kaadhalan without his ‘consent, permission or licence’.


While the film credits Ilaiyaraaja, his notice said, "the same or any underlying gesture cannot be a substitute for our client’s permission/licence/content for such usage."


In fact Ilaiyaraaja's team allegedly asked the makers of 'Manjummel Boys' to either get the composer's permission or remove the song completely from the film and also pay compensation for its illegal use.


The notice also warned about appropriate civil and criminal proceedings if the film's producer Soubhin Shahir, Shawn Antony and Babu Shahir failed to abide by the options offered to them.
