Malaylam movie star Mohanlal visited Wayanad in Kerala to extend solidarity and support to the victims of natural calamity on Saturday. Mohalal was himself dressed in army uniform.
New Delhi: Malaylam movie star Mohanlal visited Wayanad in Kerala to extend solidarity and support to the victims of natural calamity on Saturday. Mohalal was himself dressed in army uniform. Mohanlal visited areas most affected and spoke to the officials on site. The megastar also donated Rs. 3 cr in efforts of rehabiliation.

Mohanlal was also honoured with the Lieutenant Colonel rank in the Territorial Army. The Territorial Army was a military reserve force with part-time volunteers, in 2009, offered support during this crisis.
Mohanlal also offered financial support for rehabilitation of those who have lost their homes and families in the calamity. As per a Manorama report, Mohanlal said, "One can understand the scale of destruction only after visiting the site. I am extremely grateful to the Army and other volunteers for their relief work. We will also donate Rs 3 crore from Viswasanthi Foundation for rehabilitation work in the area.”
He visited Chooralmala, Punchirimattom, Mundakkai, among other places.
Last week, Wayanad was struck by a devastating landslide, almost claiming 300 lives.
Mohanlal also shared on Facebook a post thanking resue teams for their effort. "I salute the courage of the selfless volunteers, policemen, Fire & Rescue, NDRF, army soldiers, government officials, and every person working tirelessly to provide relief to the victims of the Wayanad disaster. I am grateful for the efforts of my 122 Infantry Battalion, TA Madras, who have been at the forefront of the relief mission. We have faced challenges before and emerged stronger. I pray that we stand united and show the strength of our unity in this difficult time. Jai Hind!”
Mohanlal also spoke to the media about the Wayanad's condition, "The magnitude of the landslide can only be comprehended by witnessing it firsthand. The Army, the Navy, the Air Force, the NDRF, the Fire and Rescue, the other organisations, locals etc who all are part of the rescue operations have done a wonderful job."
