Kannada actor, former radio jockey, and television presenter Aparna Vastarey has passed away. The actor’s husband, Nagaraj Vastarey, said that she has been battling lung cancer for the last two years. She was 57.

Aparna died on Thursday night. Several prominent people from the film and television industry as well as literary, and political personalities, including Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, condoled Vastarey's death.


"Saddened to hear the news of the death of actress and famous presenter Aparna. A multifaceted talent who was a household name in the state, by presenting in the Kannada language very elegantly in the programmes of major Kannada channels and government functions, has left us very soon," Siddaramaiah posted on X.

About actor Aparna Vastarey


The seasoned actor is known for her work as a presenter on DD Chandana. She gained fame after hosting a number of government progammes and events, and her flawless Kannada pronunciation won her a lot of fans.


Aparna made her film debut with ‘Masanada Hoovu’ in 1984 , which featured a stellar cast including Jayanthi and Ambareesh. She starrer in several Kannada films such as ‘Sangrama’, ‘Nammoora Raja’, ‘Olavina Asare’, ‘Inspector Vikram’,  ‘Sahasa Veera’, ‘Mathru Vathsalya’, ‘Ondaagi Balu’, and ‘Doctor Krishna’. In 1990, she became a television presenter on DD Chandana. Aparna participated in the first season of the Kannada reality TV show ‘Bigg Boss’ on ETV Kannada in 2013.
