New  Delhi: Superstar Rajinikanth’s latest movie 'Jailer' was released on Thursday with packed theatres. Fans celebrated the actor’s return to the silver screen by cheering and dancing while gathering for the film. The fan’s love is all set to transform into box office numbers as the film is expected to mint Rs 49 crore gross in India.

According to early estimates, the film could collect Rs 49 crore gross in India, industry tracker Sacnilk reported. The state-wise distribution of the box office numbers could be highest for Tamil Nadu with Rs 25 Crore, followed by Karnataka with Rs 11 Crore. The film is expected to earn Rs 4 Crore in Kerala, and in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Rs 7 Core. Since two Hindi films are releasing on Friday – Akshay Kumar’s ‘OMG 2’ and Sunny Dol’s ‘Gadar 2’, the northern belt will not be a strong market for ‘Jailer.’

Earlier on Wednesday, the official handle of PVR Cinemas had claimed that over 1.3 lakh tickets were booked in its theatres across the country.

Ashish Saksena, COO-Cinemas at BookMyShow had told PTI that 'Jailer' had amassed nearly 900,000 tickets on BookMyShow by Wednesday.

"The advance bookings for each of the four films have commenced at different junctures and therefore a comparison between the audience interest will not be justified, especially given the variety in the quantum of screenings available. However, if we look at each of these in isolation to understand the excitement around each film, so far superstar Rajinikanth-starrer Jailer has amassed nearly 9 lakh tickets on BookMyShow," Saksena told PTI.

Meanwhile, a Japanese couple came all the way to Chennai to watch the film. "Hukum-Tiger ka Hukum (Tiger's order)...To see 'Jailer' movie, we have come from Japan to Chennai," Yasuda Hidetoshi, Rajinikanth fan club leader in Japan, told PTI.

Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, 'Jailer' also stars Mohanlal and Jackie Shroff. The ensemble includes Ramya Krishnan, Tamannah, Vinayakan and comedian Yogi Babu. It has music by Anirudh Ravichander.
