New Delhi: Tamil actor and filmmaker G Marimuthi has passed away. The prolific actor-director, who was last seen in 'Jailer', breathed his last at 8:30 AM on September 8. He was 58 years-old.
Marimuthi collapsed while dubbing for his TV show, 'Ethirneechal’.
G Marimuthu was rushed to a hospital where he was declared dead. The actor also received rave reviews for his performance in 'Jailer' and ‘Red SandalWood'. His untimely death has sent shock waves in the Tamil entertainment industry.
Marimuthu is survived by his wife and two children.
Sun Pictures, producers of 'Jailer', condoled the demise of the actor-director on X, formerly known as Twitter. Sharing a photo of Marimuthu, the official handle Sun Pictures wrote, "Condolences! Your work has been impeccable and irreplaceable. Rest in peace #Marimuthu."
For those unaware, Marimuthu's show 'Ethirneechal' is one of the most-watched Tamil TV shows. Directed by Thiruselvam, the show sheds light on the oppression of women in society and their empowerment.
In the show, Marimuthi plays the titular role of Adi Gunasekaran in the series.
The show gave a new fan base to Marimuthi. Post the serial, he received a plethora of new opportunities in films as well.
Marimuthu was one of the most talented actors in the Tamil entertainment industry. His career began as a director with the 2008 film 'Kannum Kannum'. He also worked as an assistant to lyricist Vairamuthtu during his formative years. He later worked with director Vsanth as an assistant.
He has directed films 'Pulivaal' and 'Kannum Kannum'. He then moved on to pursue acting and made his debut in Mysskin's 'Yuddham Sei'.
Marimuthi worked as an AD to directors like Mani Ratnam, Vasanth, Seeman and S. J. Surya, before working as a co-director in Silambarasan's team, Manmadhan (2004).
