The G.O.A.T. Early Estimates Day 1: 'Thalapathy' Vijay's highly anticipated film The Greatest of All Time (GOAT), which released in theatres on Thursday, is on track to break several box office records in Tamil Nadu. According to early estimates from Sacnilk, the film earned ₹31.47 crore on its opening day in India, including advance bookings up until 10 PM.

On Thursday, GOAT saw an overall Tamil occupancy rate of 73.19%, with evening shows hitting a peak of 78.36%. In Chennai, theatres were packed, boasting an impressive 99% occupancy for 731 shows. The film also performed well in Pondicherry, with 32 shows, and in Madurai, where it achieved 91% occupancy across 188 shows. Trade experts report that the film’s pre-sales have already generated around ₹62 crore globally.

Despite its strong performance, GOAT’s first-day box office earnings trail behind Kalki 2898 AD, which grossed ₹114 crore on its opening day in India, making the Telugu sci-fi epic the highest earner of 2024 so far. GOAT also fell short of Vijay’s previous film Leo, which earned ₹76.2 crore on its first day in India.
