Shekhar Kapur / FTII: Acclaimed filmmaker Shekhar Kapur, has been appointed as the President of Film and Television Institute Of India (FTII) Society and Chairman of Governing Council of FTII.

Union Minister Prakash Javadekar tweeted to inform about Kapur’s appointment. Shekhar Kapur is a well known and critically acclaimed film director, actor, and producer, and is known for his works in Hindi cinema and international cinema.

“Happy to inform that renowned international film personality Shekhar Kapur has been appointed as the President of FTII Society & Chairman of Governing Council of FTII,” Javadekar tweeted.

According to an Order issued by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (Films Wing), and signed by Under Secretary (Films-II) Surajit Indu, Kapur's tenure will last till March 3, 2023.

The renowned works of Kapur include v"Masoom" in 1983 starring Naseeruddin Shah, Shabana Azmi and Jugal Hansraj. He scored blockbuster at the box office with his 1987 release "Mr India", starring Sridevi, Anil Kapoor and Amrish Puri. He made a hard-hitting biopic of Phoolan Devi, "Bandit Queen" in 1994, which helped him take his craft to the West and earn internationa commendation.
