New Delhi: The reign of Queen Selena continues unabatedly! The diva has become the most followed figure on Instagram, with over 400 million people following. Selena Gomez just surpassed Kylie Jenner, the beauty entrepreneur, to become Instagram's most-followed user. She has surpassed two popular football players to become the third most followed user on Instagram, following Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
Selena, who began her career in the entertainment industry as a child performer, has had a fruitful and extensive run at both acting and singing. She also became a producer and now runs the successful cosmetics line Rare Beauty.
In honour of the milestone, Selena Gomez shared a picture carousel of herself with her followers and wrote, "Wishing I could hug all 400 million of you."
If you've been keeping up with the Selena Gomez-Hailey Bieber spat, you probably already know why Selena's fanbase has grown so quickly. I mean, why the heck not? The fans know that Selena’s large following gain coincides with the rumoured feud between her and Hailey Bieber. Social media have been inundated with videos about the alleged "clash" between Selena and Hailey fans.
In case you missed it, the rumours of a fight started after Selena posted a video on her Instagram Story in which she revealed that she had her eyebrows "laminated", but that the results were more extreme than she had hoped for. As a joke, she said her attempt at grooming had failed miserably. Kylie Jenner later shared a picture of a FaceTime conversation with Hailey Bieber that revealed the two had identically groomed brows. Some of Selena's supporters even went so far as to accuse Kylie and Hailey of bullying their idol. After online allegations of abuse, Selena went live on TikTok to announce that she would be taking a hiatus from the platform.
