New Delhi: In Gangubai Kathiawadi, a film by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Alia Bhat is plays a defenceless girl who becomes a brothel owner and matriarch.

Bhansali and Bhatt are in Germany for the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival where Gangubai Kathiawadi will make its international debut.

During a press conference, Bhansali lauded Alia for playing the role so well. He went on to say that the actress has evolved into more of a 'Gangubai' in real life. The filmmaker said Alia's beau Ranbir Kapoor complained that she speaks and behaves like Gangubai at home.

Bhansali told the media: "I think Alia for a long time is going to live in being Gangubai because she has played it to the hilt. I think she has become more Gangubai than Alia in real life. Her boyfriend complains about her speaking like Gangubai at home and it’s just completely becoming one with the character. Now it’s just a director’s delight to see that the girl who comes out of the car at the studio is not Alia, it’s Gangu. She would walk like Gangu on the set, she would go home walking like Gangu."

Actress Alia Bhatt first revealed her infatuation with Ranbir on the popular chat show, Koffee With Karan. And the filming of their movie, Brahmastra, drew them closer. Fans have been obsessed with the couple's PDAs and adorable loving banter at public appearances ever since.

Gangubai Kathiawadi, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and starring Alia Bhatt, is ready to hit the theatres on February 25, 2022.
