R Madhavan Backs Jacqueline In Extortion Case, Refutes Rumours That He Sold House For 'Rocketry' Funding

According to reports, Jacqueline Fernandez has been named as accused in the chargesheet as a beneficiary of the extortion money.

New Delhi: Actress Jacqueline Fernandez has been named an accused by the Enforcement Directorate in conman Sukesh Chandrashekar's 200 crore money laundering case. The actress landed up in trouble after intimate pictures of hers with the main accused, Sukesh, surfaced online. According to reports, Jacqueline Fernandez has been named as accused in the chargesheet as a beneficiary of the extortion money. The chargesheet reportedly mentions that the actor was aware that Sukesh Chandrashekhar was a criminal and an extortionist. 

   

Jacqueline was summoned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with the money laundering case. In June, Jacqueline appeared at the ED headquarters, following the summons to record her statement. She told ED that she met Chandrashekhar in 2017.  

Coming to Jacqueline's rescue is actor R Madhavan who lent his support to the actress as he spoke on the matter during a promotional event in Mumbai for his upcoming film. Speaking about industry folks involved in tax raids, the actor said, "I hope she gets out of trouble very soon. I don't think this is affecting the image of the country. If fact, in our film fraternity, there have been lesser number of tax raids. Everyone is working with full honesty. I don't think it will affect the industry. Higher taxpayers are from this industry."

Madhavan, who garnered a lot of critical acclaim for his movie 'Rocketry: The Nambi Effect', also refuted rumours about selling his house for funding the film, recently. A social media user claimed that Madhavan, who made his directorial debut with the film, had to sell his house after Anant Mahadevan, who was previously roped in for directing the film, stepped out. Refuting such rumours, Madhavan claimed that the film had been a profitable venture for everyone involved and no such thing happened.

Taking to his official twitter handle, Madhavan wrote, "Oh Yaar. Pls don’t over patronize my sacrifice. I did not lose my house or anything. In fact all involved in Rocketry will be very proudly paying heavy Income Tax this year. Gods grace we all made very good and proud profits. I still love and live in my house."
