The 90s was the era when Mumbai (then Bombay) used to face gang wars very frequently. Those days, the headlines of the newspapers were mostly on the underworld. Director Shravan Tiwari’s web series Murshid is based on a gangster of that era who left the underworld, but after so many years, destiny brings him back on that route.

Plot

The story revolves around Murshid Pathan (Kay Kay Menon), Mumbai’s famous underworld Don of the 1990s. Although he had two real sons, he still adopted an orphan child, Kumar Pratap (Tanuj Virwani), who later on becomes a police inspector. After losing his elder son, he feels himself responsible for that and thus decides to quit the underworld. Looking at the situation, Farid (Zakir Hussain) replaces Murshid and starts ruling the Mumbai city.

Murshid’s real younger son joins Farid’s gang falls under big conspiracy. Looking at the situation and fear of losing another son too, Murshid had no choice but to join the underworld connections once again. Now the rival Farid has become as equal powerful as Murshid used to be once upon a time. Will this rivalry end? Will Murshid be able to save his younger son? To know the answers to these questions, one must watch this series.

Performances

Actor Kay Kay Menon is the centre of attraction in this series. He purely justifies the role of the gangster, Murshid Pathan. Starting from his dialogue delivery to his facial expression, everything is so natural. His performance is simply outstanding. On the other side, actor Tanuj Virwani also impressed the audience with his mind-blowing performance. Apart from them, other artists like Zakir Hussain, Rajesh Shringarpure, Karamveer Chaudhary, Anang Desai, etc. have also done justice to their parts.

Conclusion

These seven episodes of gangster drama keep the audience’s attention on hold till the climax. The end of every episode compels you to watch the next episode. Every punch and dialogue are quite impressive. Although the intention of the writer may not be to glorify the mafia Don, somewhere such characters attract an audience.

Overall, director Shravan Tiwari has tried his level best to match the best of the Bollywood gangster dramas. Kay Kay Menon, Tanuj Virwani, and Zakir Hussain are the pillars of the strength. With their brilliant acting, they have kept those characters alive and impressed the audience.
