Why Cheat India Box Office Collection Day 1: Emraan Hashmi’s film starts on a slow note; Uri continues to dominate

New Delhi: Emraan Hashmi starrer ‘Why Cheat India’ has started on a slow note at the box office. The film, which hit the silver screens on January 18, has under-performed on its opening day. The Soumik Sen directorial received mixed reviews from critics and could only earn Rs 1.71 crore on Friday. Bollywood trade analyst and critic Taran Adarsh shared Why Cheat India’s Box Office collection on Twitter. He mentioned that the film needed to do well over the weekend to register a decent total. ‘’#WhyCheatIndia is a non-starter... Needs miraculous growth over the weekend to post a decent total... Fri ₹ 1.71 cr. India biz,’’ Adarsh wrote on the micro-blogging site. The comedy drama remained in limelight after the title was changed from ‘Cheat India’ to ‘Why Cheat India’ after the Central Board of Film Certification (CBSE) expressed concern over it. ‘Uri: The Surgical Strike’, which released last week, is still going strong at the box office. The Vicky Kaushal and Yami Gautam starrer minted Rs 7.60 crore to take its total collection to Rs 78.54 crore till date. ‘Why Cheat India’ is facing the heat from the military drama and the film needs to pick up pace at the box office. Talking about the film, ‘Why Cheat India’ is based on the corruption which is prevalent in the present-day Indian education system. The film also stars Shreya Dhanwanthary in a key role.
