New Delhi: Prominent fashion designer, gay rights activist and Padma Shri awardee Wendell Rodricks left for his heavenly abode on Wednesday (February 12) following a prolonged illness. He was 59. Several Bollywood celebrities including Malaika Arora, Arjum Rampal and Neil Nitin Mukesh took to Twitter and Instagram to mourn Rodricks’ death.


Malaika Arora shared a throwback picture with Wendell along with the caption, "A master couturier and his muse ♥️..... RIP ???? our dearest @wendellrodricks .... I first sat n cried , n then I sat alone n smiled n laughed , jus thinkin of all the beautiful beautiful memories n moments we shared."

‘My Brother Nikhil’  director Onir tweeted, “Absolutely shocked and heartbroken to hear about my friend @Wendellrodricks sudden demise . Sad that this happens when he was about to open his dream project .... the museum of costumes in Goa . Loving and warm .. will always cherish the week I spend with him this nov in Goa.”


Jacqueline Fernandes wrote, "Your demise leaves a void in the fashion fraternity that can never be replaced. May you RIP #WendellRodricks. You will be missed."

Neil Nitin Mukesh also offered his condolence on social media. He wrote, "Genuinely sad to hear the news of Wendell Rodricks passing away."


Singer Sona Mohapatra tweeted, "Full of love. Full of life. All heart. All soul. A connoisseur. A creator. A pioneer. A change-maker. I feel lucky having known you. @Wendellrodricks you will remain in my heart forever. Refuse to see you any other way than that afternoon we spent in your glorious home in Goa."


Rodricks, who has designed clothes for actresses like Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Bipasha Basu, was awarded the Padma Shri in 2014.
