New Delhi: Sooraj Barjatya’s ‘Uunchai’ created quite a sensation at the box office despite being released on limited screens. The film earned unexpected numbers and rave reviews from both audience and critics alike.
After 8 super weeks, ‘Uunchai’ is set for a bumper opening at OTT today On Zee5, running strong in theaters entering 9th showcase week with 112 screens across India.
Rajshri Productions' ‘Uunchai’ not just brought audiences back to the theatres post the pandemic, but had senior citizens as lead cast and no villains. It followed the old release formula of limited screen count and that surely has paid off, with ‘Uunchai’ breaking the trend of films lasting a single weekend by entering the glorious 9th week.
Director Sooraj Barjatya made ‘Uunchai’ from his heart to break the compulsion of proving himself with box office numbers. ‘Uunchai’ has scaled Mount Everest, breaking the barometers of the so-called success formula film.
‘Uunchai’ boasts of a legendary ensemble including the likes of Amitabh Bachchan, Anupam Kher, Boman Irani, Neena Gupta, Sarika with Parineeti Chopra and Danny Denzongpa.
The film revolves around the story of three friends who fulfill their fourth friend’s last wish to scale the Mount Everest base camp. While they are discouraged by all, they take this strenuous expedition at the cost of their health and relationships and bring new depth and perspective to their lives and friendship.
As per our in-house review, "The Amitabh Bachchan, Boman Irani, Anupam Kher, Neena Gupta, Parineeti Chopra, Danny Denzongpa, and Sarika starrer is high on emotion, slow in pace, a genre-reverser film about life, relationships and coming to terms with old age. What really hurts is how each of the subject matter is treated chronologically in order to spoon-feed an audience which is smart enough to understand layers, nuances and landscape change without drilling it into their heads.”
