Tumbbad box office collection: The 2018 film 'Tumbbad' has achieved a significant milestone with its re-release, earning ₹1.65 crore on its first day, tripling the revenue of its original release. Tumbbad beats The Buckingham Murders

The film has surpassed the first-day box office collection of Kareena Kapoor Khan's 'The Buckingham Murders', which managed to collect Rs 1.15 crore on its first day of release.

The strong opening day performance highlights the ongoing interest in revisiting notable films in theatres. Tumbbad, directed by Rahi Anil Barve, is known for its unique mix of horror and fantasy, and its return to the big screen has been well-received by both critics and audiences.

'Tumbbad' was co-directed by Adesh Prasad and creatively guided by Anand Gandhi. Produced by Sohum Shah, Aanand L. Rai, Mukesh Shah, and Amita Shah, the film stars Sohum Shah, Jyoti Malshe, and Anita Date-Kelkar.

Actor Sohum Shah on Tumbbad's re-release

In a conversation with ABP Live, actor and producer Sohum Shah spoke about 'Tumbbad' re-release and said, “What we’ve done, if you’re appreciating it and talking about it, that’s more than enough for us. Our intention was purity—making the film as purely as we could. The right actor had to be in it, the right story had to be told. Whether there’s a star or not doesn’t matter. Films that rely solely on stars don’t work outside, and even here the landscape is changing drastically. Maybe Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan are the last of the big stars. No one else has that kind of fan following because content has become king. Perhaps we were ahead of our time, but we were on the right path.”

Tumbbad sequel on cards

The actor-producer also said that he is working on the upcoming sequel of ‘Tumbbad’.

When asked if a sequel is in works, Sohum said, “Definitely, humesha se Tumbbad ki trilogy planned thi, aur humari ek story zero down ho bhi gaayi hai. Tohh mujhe lagta hai agle saal hum shoot karege (Tumbbad was always planned as a trilogy, and we’ve already zeroed in on one of the stories. So, I think we’ll start shooting next year.)”

Currently unavailable on OTT platforms, the film's return to theatres has generated excitement among fans eager to experience it on the big screen again.
