Bengali actor Arya Banerjee, who had acted with Emran Hashmi and Vidya Balan in the Bollywood film 'The Dirty Picture' was found dead at her south Kolkata residence on Friday, police said.

The police broke open the door of her third-floor apartment and found that the body of the 33-year-old actor was lying in the bedroom covered in blood. As per reports, Arya was alone in her house in Kolkata’s Jodhpur Park. There were signs that she had possibly vomited some food. She was found lying on the floor with her face down, with some blood droplets on the floor.

According to reports, the actor’s maid informed the neighbours after she did not respond to doorbells and phone calls on Friday morning. In her statement to the police, the domestic help said that Arya lived alone and kept to herself mostly. The police said that the body was sent for post mortem examination and a forensic team collected samples from her room.

“Like every day her maid had come to work and when she didn’t get any response, she alerted her neighbours and the police were informed. The house was locked from inside. Investigation is on,” an official source revealed to ABP News. Police are also trying to verify if this is a case of drugs overdose.

Arya’s real name was Devdatta Banerjee. The daughter of late sitarist Nikhil Bandyopadhyay, Arya had acted in 'LSD: Love Sex Aur Dhoka' (2010) and other films besides 'The Dirty Picture' (2011). She had also done some modelling jobs in Mumbai.
