The Accidental Prime Minister: FIR against Anupam Kher and 13 others
Anupam Kher's upcoming film 'The Accidental Prime Minister' has been at the centre of political controversies ever since the trailer of the film released.
New Delhi: Anupam Kher's upcoming film 'The Accidental Prime Minister' has been at the centre of political controversies ever since the trailer of the film released. On Tuesday, a local court of Muzaffarpur, Bihar ordered to register an FIR against Kher and 13 others in connection with a petition filed by Sudhir Ojha against the film.
In his complaint, Ojha had stated that he felt "hurt" and upset upon viewing the promos of the biographical drama. Besides Kher, who plays the role of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in the film, others mentioned in the complaint include actor Akshaye Khanna who appears in the role of noted journalist Sanjaya Baru.
Sudhir's report claimed that the film projected the country and a host of its political leaders in very poor light.
Earlier, another plea was filed in the Delhi High Court demanding a ban on the trailer of the movie. The petitioner named Pooja Mahajan had told ANI, "I have taken this step as a citizen. They have deliberately made this movie ahead of the Lok Sabha elections to wash the minds of voters. Being a voter myself, I don't want other people to go and cast their votes influenced by this film."
Delhi High Court is likely to hear the petition filed by Pooja against the trailer on January 9, 2019.
The trailer of Anupam Kher-starrer 'The Accidental Prime Minister' drew a lot of flak from the Congress party as well.
Maharashtra Youth Congress raised objections over the film and demanded its special screening to ensure that none of the scenes is factually incorrect.
The political controversy over The Accidental Prime Minister caught media attention after the BJP on Thursday shared its trailer calling the movie a "riveting tale of how a family held the country to ransom for 10 years." The Anupam Kher starrer is all set to release on January 11.
